Hi guys I have the oppurtunity to buy a super red arowana but i am not sure of the quality. How red is the average super red surpposed to be. The one I am thinking of buying has more of a yellow/orange tail with gold scales and dark back ground. The fish is 18 inchs long.

I am in the Uk, I don't want to spend to much, how much should I spend for a good quality-not talking about show quality. Also is it better to buy a chillie or blood red if I want more red?

What you described sounds more of a red tail gold (RTG). They still are beautiful but they're more on the common and cheaper side to asian aros. From experience, blood red and chili red seem almost the same, correct me if im wrong, but the only difference is the pattern of colour. I prefer chili reds more though. Colour all comes down to water quality and food nutrition.

as you proberly know smaller the fish the less price it is. At what size can one see the quality of the colour the fish is going to attain?

My chilis all got their full colouring at around the 2 year mark while my bloods only took about a year. So id say, 10-12" chilis would start to colour while 6-8" bloods will start to colour. Almost forgot to mention, chilis look bigger and more majestic and have big black eyes and have a somewhat diamond shaped tail, while bloods look more stealthy as in long and slim and have small white-ish eyes with a fanned out tail.

i say blood looks more red

It could, since its a deeper shade of red, while chilis are a bit lighter with an orangy shine to it too. I think it comes down to personal opinion, the 2 colours are VERY similar though.
