I see these "super" red belly piranhas for sale online and they do look very red. I assume this is just a genetic line which tends to have more red. I've never seen one in person and was wondering if anyone has. Are they as impressive as they appear to be online? And are they worth the extra cost.

they are just wild caught natts as opposed to the tank bred natts more commonly seen for sale. it may be worth it to spend the extra cash on a wild caught, but it depends on what you are looking for.... if you want a bright red piranha, you can easily achieve that same level of coloration with a tank bred natt with proper care. even if you buy a wild caught and it is bright red at the time of purchase, the color can fade fast once you get it home.

Super Reds are not just common wild cought red bellys at all. They are red bellys that come out of a certian river basins out of brasil(Rio Araguaia and Rio Sao Francisco) They have very brilliant red bellys and no spots, people sometimes confuse them with Piraya when they are juviniles because sometimes they will have a flame or two going up the sides.

nope, they're just wild caught reds, although some of them from certain locations do have a much brighter red coloration

:iagree: super reds are simply wild caught reds. with proper care and feeding, tank bred reds can end up looking just as, if not more colorful than wild caught.
