Ok I have a pair of red severum I just bought and in about 3 weeks time the female has laid eggs. The male seems to fertilize them but after around 24 hours the eggs all turn from brown to white and all die off! My ph here is rather high around 7.8.Does anyone know what could be happening? Is the ph too high for the eggs to hatch properly or as I have have read are the males infertile? If the males are infertile maybe breeding the female to a rokteil might be the answer.Any advice would help thanks

i know a co8uple of people who have tried breeding them with no luck i think the males are infertile or at least most of them are.

Most of the males are infertile, sounds like your male is, people normally use gold sevs good luck, i am growing out some males to breed with my female, i have got my fingers crossed!

Thanks for the advice I was hoping that males were fertile :/Damn Still anyone have thoughts on the ph? Is it too high for eggs to survive?

I don't think males are necessarily sterile. Mine did ok when I bred it to a gold female.

Several of my friends independently bred red to red and none of them got any fry. Red to gold always seem to work, regardless of the direction of the cross. I suspect that one may have to follow the EBJD breeding "protocol", but my friends haven't gone that far yet.
