Hi guys

My super which is about -i think two years old and 17 inchs- sometimes shows alot of red and then times looks abit faded even though it still shows some red. Why is this and how can i make it more red? I have heard it can take upto five years to gain a deep red colour.

P.S i don't tan but the tank is near a window but not too close. No pics, don't have a camera

any advice would be great.

:) you are.. you are.. jus that i think people would like to see pics before they comment.. i'm def not into asian aros.. but there are quiet a lot of people who can give you their views on the same.. pics if you could would be a great help rather than jus imagining and shooting..

only morio worms which fed first with carrots and reptile powder vits. i have tried every type of food and stavation to no avail. He/she is very healthy, aggresive and confident. no pics sorry

I find my red is more pale when i first turn the lights on. but after 10-15 mins its back to normal.

I tanned my fish @ around 17" and got good results. or use a NAN, OTTO light and your orange fish will instantly look red.

Bad diet probably a big contribution. I've never had the starve method fail, usually if it fails, it means you didn't do it long enough.

I went ten weeks with the starve method, it did start eating pellets but i believe it contributed to the death of my 20 inch RTG sortly after it started eating again.

IMHO go max 6 weeks then start to feed a little again for a week or so, not too much though.
