Im very new to saltwater and want to get everything i need right. The tank im lookin to set up is a 90 gallon standard. 48" coralife dual compact and a metal halide depending on coral. This will be a full reef tank with fish, such as clowns, tangs, cleaner shrimp etc. Im using RO water and a marine buffer to make Ph about 8.3. I was told by the LFS that water changes would replace minor and some major elements that are need by coral and fish. is this true?? second of all if its not, what types of additives would i need to consider for proper growth of fish and coral. Also if im doing everything wrong, tell me and ill never shop at my LFS again!!! lol. it seems as if everything he says books and websites contradict his info. im confused none the less!

Yes, you do not really need to be adding ANY suppliments to the tank, unless you NEED to..All the trace elements will get replenished when you so a water change as long as your using a good quality salt like Reef Crystals..

also it's usually not wise to start right off the bat with corals but depending how much effort you're willing to put into it, it can be done.
GL im about to make the leap myself.

I have considered the fact but, ive been told ill be fine. ill c what happens. I have a lot of "profesionals" that i could talk to if i have any problems. my basic approach is curing the LR for about 6-8 weeks depending on amount per lb. mixin RO saltwater in a seperate tank so i can match the SG. daily testing to make sure peramiters are in order. Im sure the tank setup with be FOWLR for a while, then ill start adding corals. anyways i think it will be fun. ill deff. keep everybody posted with my status lol. thanks for all the help!!

wll if you're going to wait for the tank to establish that's different. i thought you were just goingt ot cycle the tank and BAM! add some corals in there.
