Alright I'm currently setting up a Malawi tank and would love to know any suggestions on supports for numerous rocks in the tank. I have heard styrofoam and egg crates are great but I'm not sure if they are the best.

i'm not sure what you call it but plastic grids (like the kind that cover ceiling tile fluorescent lights) disperse the weight evenly throughout the tank. Also, you can build more structure and not need to worry about rocks toppling if you glue them together with sumo or gorilla glue. just give it 48-72 hours to fully cure before you place it in the tank

I set the rocks on the glass bottom of the tank, build the structure up with rocks and aquarium silicone, let cure, then add the gravel and fill er up. Works very well, a 55 i've got has a rock wall built into the back with driftwood in it that was done this way. It's all the way to the top, and very stable. Plus, the digging behavior of malawi's won't disturb it because the rocks are set on the bottom of the tank, not on the gravel.
