Hello, I'm Ashley and I've been looking at these forums for a while before actually registering, because a lot of the fish species I have, like, or want are posted about here, and it's very interesting to read through.
My tanks right now aren't really existent, I'm rearing a pair of catfish and a knife in a grow-out tank at the moment, they're still pretty tiny. (about 3" each. I know, I know, nowhere near "monster" yet?)
They probably aren't even classed as "monsters" at a measly 10-12 inches each probable size. The catfish are Eclipses, and while they could get 18", they probably won't. Mini-monsters?
All this is in the growing stage for a tank anywhere from 125g to 300g, just depending on what I can snag a deal on.
My smallest wanted size, 125, will hold a Leopard Pleco, 18" max size expected | Two Eclipse catfish, 10-12" expected | African brown knife, 10" expected | 4-5 Apollo Sharks, 10" expected. A lot of people class the knife as a bottom swimmer, I don't. When it swims, it clears the catfish definitely, and the only time it's really at the bottom is when it's hiding in it's tunnel. Surprisingly, that's not a lot.
I really want to toss in a pair of 4-Lined Pimelodus catfish, at 10" expected, but in a 125 it would be really overcrowding. I want a larger tank just for the 4-lineds, and the Apollos to have more swim space, but if I can't find a deal I can't find a deal. Hopefully a nice 300g comes along, though, I love the specs of them. Lots of space.
I have some issues though, especially with finding info about Apollo Sharks, which is why I'm here, and hopefully can get some answers.
If anyone has some knowledge, I'll post a thread about it here in a minute, but it's giving me a lot of headache trying to find the buggers, and then find the right species, because apparently there's three species sold as Apollo Sharks, and one will rip apart anything else silver in a tank, including their own shoal/school mates! Not worth spending about $15 each on if they'll just tear eachother to ribbons. So.. thank you for reading, I suppose, and I hope my pursuit of a herder to find fish makes up for my lack of 2-4 foot monster fish, or huge awesome tanks!
