In the garage
So I went to my lfs to get some rosie reds. In the ghost shrimp tank they had what appeared to be a .5" bluegill. Once I got it home and into its tank, it turned out to be a .5" crappie. I have never kept a crappie this small. What do I feed him? Right now hes living with five 3" bullfrog tadpoles.

try freeze dried blood worms, i ahve yet to find a panfish fry that won't eat them. I have some mirco green sunnies that are about .5 in and they love bloodworms

Would frozen work just as well?

yes, probably better actually. i've found that freeze dried bloodworms are just like the dry empty husk of a bloodworm, not really much to them. i don't see how they can be of much nutritional value besides roughage to help digestion (it says that bit about digestion on the can).

Live guppie fry would be best but hard to come by.

All of mine have taken frozen blood worms easily.

Also there is a vey very slight chance of it being a crappie. Because it is way out of there breeding season. While sunfish can be found allmost year around breeding actively.

It looks just like a bluegill, but with a bigger mouth and odd coloration. It looks just like the crappie fry I catch during the summer. I dont know how they got it, but I'm 99% sure its a crappie. 1% on a deformed and oddly colored bluegill. He did eat some frozen bloodworms, after eating and spitting out about half of them.

I tried, but he wouldnt stay still long enough and my camera is horrible.
