in a house
So, as I'm driving home today from work. My dad gives me a little call and tells me to come home asap. I ask if im in trouble, and he says no. I head home and on the table is a box with holes pocked in it and its taped up. so it must have been shipped, and the only animal we have been talking about is hedgehogs, but I dont know enough about them right now to get them.. We take it into my room where the dogs cant come in, and when he opens the box, its a gorgeous female normal morph ball python. shes easily 2 foot + more around the 3 feet mark. Its active and exploring while we talk and hold it. He tells me him and his partner at work were throwing away some stuff into the dumpster and they saw it sitting in the dumpster...

My dad and mom both hate snakes, but for him to bring it home and to be holding it and telling me he brought it home because he knows I'm getting some and i like snakes. I think thats a pretty cool thing.

shes currently in a 20gallon tank, with a water dish and 2 hide spots. will be getting her into a 29gallon tank once it arrives.

Pics will get posted tomorrow.

Just a question, when should i try feeding her, because I dont know the last time she ate, because shes been in the wild. and when holding her It almost feels like shes about to shed. should i be worried?

Whoaaa very cool dad indeed! Sorry but i can not advise on snakes seeing that i never had any. My parents absolutely do not like snakes AND even if i really wanted to make a terarium with snake i will be nagged all day and all night to get rid of it ^^

I always wondered what it would be like to have a king cobra or something along those lines ...though i image the maintenance would be really tricky lol

Idk, He just started this job like a month ago? and hes already finding cool stuff. Apparently the guy who my dad was with, owns and breeds snakes but thought of me and told my dad to take it. he gave me newspapers to for the bedding which shows he knows alot about snakes.

his last show he would bring home armored catfish, and bowfin like every day lol.

I'd let her calm down and get used to being in her tank for a couple days and then feed her. For her first feeding or two, you can give her more to eat than you normally would just to make sure she has food in her system and then start on a normal feeding schedule. If she is about to shed, she might not be interested in eating, so just wait until she's through shedding. If she does shed and still doesn't eat for a while after that, there could be a problem.

I took one of my hob overflows off of a old tank ( its got a opening and a back that are open which makes a perfect hide) it fits her perfectly. so shes got a nice little place to stay for awhile. I'll go pick up a small hopper maybe monday and see if she eats it. if not, i'll wait a little bit and see if she seds. but i'll take the mouse out and feed it to the owel that lives outside my house if she dosnt eat it.

appreciate the help.

id wait a week or 2 before feeding her. let her settle in. keep handling to a minimum. make sure your temps are correct. is this a 20 long tank? at 3 feet id go with a 40 breeder for her. also at 3 feet id be feeding her small rats, forget adult mice. she can take larger prey. also, just for the heck of it try feeding a thawed out rat. maybe you will get lucky and the previous owner had her on frozen. feed at night when they are normally more active.
