just these last 2 days, 2 or so snakeskin gourami's and 1 swordtail
are at the top of the water gasping,
should i adjust the spraybar more downward pointing to create more bubbles and diffuse more oxygen? or is it to do with the tank being to warm? i run a Tetratec ex700 external filter which is powerful, and do weekly waterchanges on this 55g tank.

thanks, Eläköön

oh i know they are labrynth fish, its a constant breathing of the top. but they do go down after a little bit, im just worried cause they are doing it more than normal ( i watch them alot lol) so i was wondering if i need to adjust the spraybar?
or anotehr waterchange, i gave them an unusualy large one on sunday though

edit* the water temp is around 25. so its a good stable. but i do have lizards and another large fishtank down here so if its heat i can gladly manage that. i dont measure water peramiters, but the tank has been established for about 4 months with gravel vac and 30% waterchange every week. beseids a small Uaru and rainbow cichlid its all smallscale tropicals that dont produce much waste in there so im assuming the water quality is kept good the plants arent suffering

You can't get a for sure response without water parameters. You can guess all day, but can't prove anything without them. It could be lack of oxygen, but it could also be high parameters, firstly ammonia (which actually lowers oxygen as well). You need to check these, then let us know.

Without testing the tank, I would probobly adjust the spraybar as best you can AND do a water change. I never hesitate to change out some water when my fish act funny, but I also have a full test kit, so I just about always know why.

I would first and formost suspect ammonia in the tank. But be sure that you have surface movement to allow for proper gas exchange. But I would check your perameters.

ok well ive adjusted the spraybar and its much better now.
i just had a thought though
i have a group of 6 snakeskin gourami's 2m 4f would it be breeding interest or arer they too small (around 4.5")

well things are deffinetly looking up, il do a larger waterchange and gravel vac then usual at the weekend, if it continuse does that mean the water quality wasnt what affected it
