I have a canister filter with the outlet going to a single open tube pointed horizontally. My juvenile oscar, convict, and green terror will take turns swimming vigorously into the stream, getting as close as they can until it flings them across the tank. It's pretty hilarious to watch, but I'm just wondering, are they actually "having fun"? Or, is there some kind of instinct that drives this behavior, like the urge to travel upstream? Can they exhaust themselves to death by doing this? I'm kinda tempted to put a spraybar on the outlet to keep them from pooping themselves out.
