I stumbled across this system and thought it was a fantastic idea to be used in mini growout ponds. Power is always a big concern and any grow out systems and with this design the pump will not run 24x7 but only long enough to fill the surge tank and is shut off by a float valve. You could run air/sponge filters in each level and then surge every hour to circulate the water around help get any debris out. I would make screens at every level to catch it but is this a crazy idea?

It would be good for removing debris every now and then, but I would wonder about the efficiency vs cost. Sponge filters or a standard sump do pretty well to compete with this.

BTW, That is one awesome setup.
