It's hard to ID them. If you know they are from suriname, id google Crenicichla in suriname and do a process of elimination.

If I recall correctly, the more spangles they have they are found closer to the eastern shore of the continent. Alta is not as spangled so it likely isn't Alta.

I just googled and the two endemic species from Suriname are multispinosa which this is not, and true saxatilis according to burress. Looks like you have a true saxatilis! Quite a rare find indeed!!!

Good find. Thanks mrrobxc mrrobxc ...my cichlid game is in general is quite poor and not up to par like you. Even though they're starting to interest me.

Wow! Thank you for everyone's inputs. They are truly a cool fish.

Hmmm going to be a little hard to look for that line dorsally to ID females. I might have 3 males from what i recall when releasing them into the tank

Cichlids are a cool group of fish and not all cichlids are created equal. I'm partial to SA with pikes being my main attraction.

Thanks for the compliment but I'm no where near the level some of the other folks on here are. I just took it as an obligation to watch this Crenicichla forum as all the original experts have left the site and I want to keep this area active to spread the love of Crenicichla.
