I came across this video of an old abandoned pond. I believe the original owners sold the house, obviously the pond came with the house, and the new owners got some contractors in to drain it to see what it held.

As it's being drained you don't see anything until right near the end when there's literally only inches of water in it, and then you start seeing the odd small goldfish. I was amazed at what they actually took out.

Wow.
The algae kept them alive and was absorbing nitrates.

True Dat
I'm always amazed at how many aquarists see green water as a bad thing.
Sure it doesn't look that good but....helps clear nitrate.
I had a pair of Australoheros spawn in a tank that sat in direct sun, and had a serious algae bloom.

I let it run its course, and barely needed to feed the fry all summer, yet in fall, ended up with lot of 1" juvies

At the time I was using a 1500 gal pond, as the tanks sump, to keep water temps stable.

Why are so many of the koi dull colored? Surely they didn't buy them that way? Is the color loss this drastic in koi?
