Hmm... Looks tem to me. Although the head does kinda throw me off.

possible characteristic. but tems get bold golden bars not lines. which could be our variation and how to distinguish a certain cichla from the many bar cichla(tem,vazz,thy,pinima,azul,) (i'm not sure fogos can fit in because from all the pics ive seen lol 1-2 they have a faded bar at center of the body.) At juvinile stages. but where im going to is we need to look for those indestinctive variations in the cichla that tells them apart from each other.

What exactly is a "thy"?

He looks like a farm bred tem to me. I've seen quite a few that had little or no white spangles and a washed out look to them.

Also, look at the dark patch in between the gold extending from the caudal peduncle to the end of the dorsal. I agree that this is definitely not a tem as the head shape is completely diff from any I have seen.
