Hi guys, my 4 inch albino bichir is always floating on the top of my tank. i know that people say People that juvinile bichirs always float on the tank as in normal but for my bichir, it doesn't seem so normal. It all started at around a month ago when my now deceased (other) albino bichir was floating on the surface of the tank like if jhe have swim bladder problems. I suspected that it was intestinal worms (he had them when it it happened)in my now deseased (other) bichirs stomach. The strange thing was, my other albino bichir (thats still alive now) was always copying my "sick" bichir. is this floating to the surface symtom contagious? I have a very special delhzi bichir that i waited for 5 months, and I don't want him to float to the surface. my bichir floats to the surface for like 12 hours a day and swims to the bottom once every half an hour. i've had my albino for 5 months and he's never floated to the surface until last month. on the surface, his bodyt very move (xcept for fins) slightly sometimes. don't think he has worms. he does have a weird slight bulge in part of his stomach. is this normal??? It would be awesome if everyone that is viewing this thread would post any of their opinions here!!

thanks.

Mine never floats but she does swim up and down on the side of the tank for most of the day, kind of makes me think she crazy or something..

haha, i wouldnt mind that very much, itd be terribly cute. but at any cost, always check the LSD levels in your tank, your fishes might just be tripping the hell out.

Wait is he always trying to swim down but can't stay at the bottom if he wanted to? I had that problem with probably a dozen ropefish over several years in multiple tanks. I was told it was internal parasites attacking the swim bladder. I don't know what it is or how to treat it besides flash treatments of quick cure:

prepare a bucket with tank water and add 10 times the dose of quick cure. Dunk your bichir in their 2 times a day for 15-30 minutes each(fresh water/quick cure each treatement), you judge by his behavior/response to the treatment if he needs to be removed earlier. I never got that to save a fish but it seemed to push off the imminent demise. Maybe some variation of that would do the trick.

that's strange i have an ornate and a delhezi and they both like floating to the top of my overflows and just sit there stuck to them for a while. at first i thought there was something wrong but they swam back down. my bichirs are easily my favorite fish in my tank. don't know how this will help but just wanted to share...lol.

I think that might be my problem.. I tested and the LSD level were like 1960%
