Mile High in Northern AZ, baby!~
Brand new NOOB to saltwater...
I have a spare 30 gallon that I'm planning to try my hand at a fish only set-up...

Will an air driven protein skimmer like this one work?...

or will I need one like the powerhead driven one?...

...I already have 1" of crushed coral.
My 30g has a bottom of 12" x 30" how much live sand will I need to add? ...
Thankz in advance ~Zenz

Both of those are placed inside the tank. I am selling one that would be perfect for your 30 gallon. It hangs on the back of the tank, not inside the tank.

better water flow with a power head driven one better air to water mix also. as far as live sand goes i would only add a small amount as you have 1 inch on the bottom allready

Thankx Nic,
The crushed coral I have was given to me by another F/W keeper...It was bleached and rinsed thoughly...
...atm the tank is set up with a F/W chichlid, and all is well.
I'm sure the "live" part was off'd in the bleaching...
