heres my sump design for my 100g tank, the sump is a 40g breeder 36x18x16. the fuge area will proboably stay empty for now, until i figure out what i want to put in it. the last glass wall will have a 3" strip of egg crate on top of it to keep either fish on time out or macro algea out of the pump area.

this is my first sw tank, but im pretty shure i got it right.

I made a similar sump for my tank using a standard 40 gal tank. I used a single glass panel on the skimmer end of the tank (instead of the glass baffle design you have drawn), and made it a bit taller than the baffle on the return pump end. Good idea for the egg crate too, it will help keep stuff out of your return pump. I'll dig around and see if I can find a picture.

only reason i got the baffle on the skimmer end it too keep micro bubbles that might escape the skimmer from getting to the pump and into the main tank. i got another idea though, let me draw it up.

I still think you can use just a single baffle on the skimmer end. If any bubbles spill over the baffle into the refuge area, they will most likely make it to the surface before ever reaching the return pump.
Can't find the picture of my sump set up for my salt tank. I do have a picture of it when I used it as a freshwater sump (same set up, just no skimmer or refugium).

its all done! was too cheap to buy glass cut to fit so i bought some precut from HD that wasnt wide enough so i siliconed 2 peices together to get the right width of the tank. considering i had the tank and pump already i got about $20 into the sump, and $185 into the skimmer(used).
