Went fishing for the first time this season with my father this morning. This picture came out awesome (IMO). Any suggestions?

Love it!
I had to give it a shot, I almost never get anything that clear straight from camera.
Just did a quick 5pixel highpass in softlight on the bird and desaturated the cyans around the edges, and unsharp mask at 150% 1radius with around 20% opacity on lighten blend mode.

Couple of questions.

Was this shot in RAW?

Was this processed or right out of the camera?

was wondering that too.

as it is, the swan is beautiful but the crop doesn't work for me.

nothing wrong with using a shallow dof, it helps emphasize the main subject.
i'd have cropped tighter on the area of focus, i.e., the swan's head, but not so tight though that the viewer doesn't appreciate the shallow dof.

i see no reason to include so much blue behind/above the subject. it seems to draw attention to the chopped lower half of the body.

more importantly, did you/your dad catch anything? pics?

keep snapping and sharing. :)

there was little to no post-processing, other than copyright. This is straight out of the camera, in jpeg format.
