In the procees of getting rid of my internal and changing to a external t free up some space. At the mo I have them both running so I can get some good bugs in the new filter and have put some media in it out the old filter. Question is how long should I continue to run the internal before just switching to the external?

ide leave it a month to 6 weeks to be absolutly sure the new filter is up to scratch.

no point removeing it to soon and haveing problems, whats a few more weeks the internal has been there this long already.

at least 6 weeks unless you can figure out a way to take the media out of the old filter and stick it in the new one

Depends how large the tank is and if its bare bottom. If its a decent size with substrate I'd just pull out the internal right now, otherwise, I'd give it 2-3 weeks.
