I have been trying to rescue this parrot for the last 2 weeks.

It started with her float upside down trying to swim. Couldn't get her to eat.
It did seem as if her belly was bloated, during treatment the bump later moved to her side. As per photos below. (These signs made me belief it's swim bladder disease.)

Testing the main tank indicated poor water quality. The NO3 and NO2 levels were way to high. Used Tetra 6 in 1 test strips.

  • I then quarintined her.
  • Did serious water changes to improve water quality.
  • Added Aquarium salt and moved the temp to atleast 82F.
  • Later added Sera Baktupor Direct tablets according to directions.(I thought it might be bacteria infection and its the only meds i could get my hands on.)

  • The second week I got Epsom salt (Adding 1 teaspoon per 5 gallon.)

It doesn't seem to have any effect.

My questions :

  • Does this look like swim bladder?
  • If so would Baktopur direct be any good?
  • Could it have made the problem worst?

swim bladder is when the fish loses control of it's buoyancy and floats or sinks. the fish could just be constipated. keep the water clean through water changes and use epsom salt baths. adding aquarium salt makes it worse though, so don't use that. i think bacterial disease is rarely the cause of sbd.
