Hi!

I have a female Red Wag Swordtail with a swim bladder issue. She is very much alive but she swims with her tail down and head up. Over the past couple days she has become more and more 'lazy' (exhausted probably) and rests on the bottom of the tank, moving for food or for interaction with fish and/or myself.
She can't maintain her depth but her balance is good. Can swim to the top of the tank and will happily feed.

I tried feeding her mushed up (de-shelled) peas on Saturday and again today but so far it hasn't helped. She loves the peas though!

Any suggestions?

Appreciated!

Try a little epsom salt.

Thanks of the suggestion, Aquanero. How much would you put in a 10 Gallon tank?

Update: The same fish is more active today but I have seen her throw up a) the mushed up peas I fed her yesterday and b) fish poop....

Never seen a fish throw up before in my life!

A quick epsom salt bath might help. Add 1 teaspoon of epsom salt to a gallon of water and put the fish in for 15 to 20 mins. Out it back in the tank this might help it straighten out.

The fish in question has survived and is (as far as I can tell) 'cured'. She no long works over time to maintain her depth in the tank and is not resting on the bottom. Thanks for the advice!
