Swimming fry tank and vortex

Hey guys, what can I doo to clear up my tank with the swimming fry. It is getting pretty dirty but I did not want to disturb the tank.

Now the water is brown, I cleaned the inside of the glass. I do not want to gravel vac it, because of the fry.

I was wondering if I could youse my Vortex Freedom Filter to clear it up. I would put a sponge prefilter on it so I would not suck up any babies.

Will this work? I know gravel in the tank does not help!

Sponge filter or just use a hang on back filter and put a sponge over the intake.
