hey, im not very experienced and am relatively new to this site. i was wondering if i could get some help. I recently decided to switch my aquarium (freshwater) to sand. i sold the fish that was in there, so i have no fish. i gutted the tank, cleaned it, no soap of course. now i added the sand and am adding water. the sand was aquarium sand from my lfs. now the water is a cloudy white with little clumps of the sand mostly the colored stuff floating in it.

my question is, is this normal, how long till it goes away, and if its not normal how to fix it? any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Yes its normal, It should take a few days to a week. If you want it gone in a hurry keep changing the water or get a diatom filter. The diatom powder will have to be changed a few times before its completely clean!

Did you rinse the sand? If not it may take a while longer to clear up. Either way you'll most all have some cloudiness after putting sand for substrate. A little helpful tip is to put your hose on a dinner plate and let the water slowly fill up the tank. It keeps from moving the sand all over the place.

quick question, i have these little bubble looking sand pacts, floating at the top, this is okay as well and will clear up? and when can i turn the filter back on?

Turn your filter back on, I would recommend first doing a very large water change after you stir the sand up to remove as much of the crud as possible. Then just let it settle, it will eventually clear itself out with time and water changes.
In the future, always try to rinse it really well first, although my flourite black sand was rinsed about a dozen times before I put it in my new 33 gallon and it still clouded.

okay so its been about 8 hours or so when i added it, theres still some little pacts floating on top as well as just some sand, and i can turn my filter back on?

i need help again, the sand on the tank floor is bubbled as well, like its little sand bubbles is this normal? if not how do i fix it. im finding its only the colored sand
