I have been reading about everyone using filter bags for quite some time, so I finally decided to give it a try.
Up until this point I have been using pillow stuffing. It works pretty well, but it is kind of messy and you have to watch out for stray fibers.
I picked up a couple of 100 micron, 18" long bags with 7" diameter plastic collars.
I used a 3" ABS street ell and cap. Two 3" pieces of stainless rod are used to hang the bag on. The cap is drilled to evenly disperse the flow. There is also a 3/4" hole at the top of the ell for venting.
The last photo is of the bucket o' floss that the bag replaces. If this works out I will probably fill it up with more bio-media. If it seems like the floss did a better job I can switch back in no time.
For those of you who are running filter socks, what are their pros and cons?
