I have been reading about everyone using filter bags for quite some time, so I finally decided to give it a try.

Up until this point I have been using pillow stuffing. It works pretty well, but it is kind of messy and you have to watch out for stray fibers.

I picked up a couple of 100 micron, 18" long bags with 7" diameter plastic collars.

I used a 3" ABS street ell and cap. Two 3" pieces of stainless rod are used to hang the bag on. The cap is drilled to evenly disperse the flow. There is also a 3/4" hole at the top of the ell for venting.

The last photo is of the bucket o' floss that the bag replaces. If this works out I will probably fill it up with more bio-media. If it seems like the floss did a better job I can switch back in no time.

For those of you who are running filter socks, what are their pros and cons?

You'll love them.

They are great until they continuously clog, dont be afraid to experiment with your micron count....

Awesome, great...neat in fact.

But WTF kind of filter set-up is that? What do you have, a filter made from a swimming pool? Damn, I see two five gallon buckets and 3" pipe and it looks tiny in that set-up!

It is a 300G stock tank if I remember correctly.

Thanks, there's actually four bucket filters total. :D

Yeah, I see it now in his signature line. That's hilarious. Great idea though....need to discuss that with the wife. :)

It's actually the sort of thing you do first, discuss with the wife later... :nilly:

I never had a problem with mine clogging. I ran two 50 microns inside of 100 microns on my 180 central setup. They worked well. They only thing I can say is don't get the cheap ones. Spend the $3.75 and get the good ones.

Nice P - Guess I just got dirty water...lol
