So I just swiched out my eheim 2226 and 2215 filters(now for sale in the buy and sell forum) to rena xp3s. Think this is a good idea or not? Main reason is too have all the same filter, so I can keep one extra on hand for emergency replavcement.

I only have one more to switch and that one will replace my eheim 2026 Pro II

That's the first time I've heard rena trump eheim

Ya, to poor to switch all to eheims though

Regardless of what you may hear about Eheims, you can't do better than an XP3. The only thing I don't like is the tubing and the sectioned intake tube. I replaced the Rena tubing with the 304/404 corrugated tubing from Hagen (Fluval).

I have 4 XP3s and I would love to off them. I think they're one of the most over rated filters on the market. I seems to have a different opinion about them than most people though.

No Rally your not the only one. I've done a few side by side tests between Renas and The Fluval 405's I run and theres NO comparison. The Renas are noisy...more difficult to servace...less adaptable...and the flow rates drop off a LOT. (I run in line flow meters on my can's to see what they are doing.)

My other complaint with them is this...When cleaned out at identical intervals..the Rena produced FAR less waste than the 405. This tells me they are removing MUCH less garbage from the water.

Lastly...One of the two Xp3's I picked up in trade snapped an impeller shaft and the other split the canister case. All of this in three months use although I have no idea how old they were to begin with.

Like Rally said... They just don't impress me.

Where are you located? I'm interested in your eheim 2026 if you're in SOCAL. I've a 4 months old XP3 to trade you for your eheim.

I do have the eheims for sale Eheim filters for sale If you would like to send me the rena I can send you the eheim.

For me it's rena xp3s for bio and AC110s for mech. Despite everyone elses claims my tanks are more then enough proof for me. I have yet to have either of the two filters to fail on me. I can't hear me XP3s nor can I see how they could be any easier to clean(although the only other cannisters I've had are the eheims and a fluval 304).My only real reason for doing this is the ease of being able to have an extra xp3 on hand to switch out in case of emergency.

I will be selling that one for $100 including shipping, but first I have to get a replacement xp3 to move all media into and support the tank the 2026 currently on. I would trade the 2026 for your xp3 though.
