i have a 55 gallon tank that is setup for freshwater and i want to change it to a saltwater tank, what type of equipment would i need (like lights and protein skimmers and stuff)???

skimmer is always good t5ho lights are great and allow for all types of corals live rock and sand... and salt that's about what you need

sell it and get a bigger FW tank to keep larger Monster FW's. (thats what I am doing with my saltwater tank. bye bye to salt and hello to more monster freshies.) (okay I must confess its not because I don't like SW I loved it but I just don't have time for it right now. Thats my 7 week old daughters fault. So I'm putting my time and $$$ into the fresh water tank.)

But since SW is pretty sweet. Make sure you get enough Live Rock. My system has always been perfect levels and the LR and Live Sand have a lot to do with that. Good stuff.

and then yeah a skimmer and some power heads and your pretty much set. I didn't do corals so I can't help you with lights.

Are you running a sump?

no but i could set one up if u think i wuold be a better idea, the 55 is only runnin a couple whisper 60's. and the reason i am changing it is because i am setting up my 518 for the fish in the 55

YES......I'm jealous now.

Ummm.....sump.....I'm not so sure it is that neccessary on a 55 gallon. If you get a HOB Protein Skimmer you should be fine.

sumps, skimmers, lots and lots of live rock, ro unit, powerhead, and lots of money... keep it fw

once my 518 is done i won't really have a use for it, and i have plenty of other tanks to use as a sump, as well as a pump, i have a few powerheads around also, so all i would really need is a skimmer, liverock, and possibly lights(which lights do u guys suggest), and i guess an RO unit, but the water here is pretty much pristine, it was voted best water in the world

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, freshwater is so much better.

dude go for it i am working on getting my 29 set up and working on getting every thing for my 90. its worth the money i am probably less than $500 in to my 29 and all i need is a new sump and lights. its expensive but that just means you take a wile to get going.
