I am new to planting/aquascaping but have done a lot of research. I went out and bought a mixture of beginner plants to experiment. They are not growing as well as I would like them to be. I have been thinking about changing to a soil substrate under my sand to help my plants grow. I am sold on Miracle-Gro organic choice potting mix. I also want to mix clay with the soil. There are a few questions/concerns I have.
-The first is how long does the excess nutrients phase last?
-Is it harmful to fish?
-Could I soak the soil for an extended period to reduce this?
-I do not have a second tank to place all the fish I have so where is the best place to put them?
-I have read a few topics regarding sand on top of soil being bad, is this true?
I have a 75 gallon tank btw Any advice with this would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
