i just had to return my gold nugget pleco to the LFS because he was eating away my custom DIY concrete background -- all the way down to the styrofoam.

so now i'm looking for a catfish that won't repeat this sort of behavior. i need something that can live safely with my SA cichlids, but won't overgrow my (150g) tank and eat me out of house and home (ie a redtail cat).

suggestions appreciated...

What were you feeding the gold nugget pleco? GN's are primarily meat eaters, and should not be exhibiting this type of behavior.

damn. i was told (LFS) that algae was their staple. since i have plety of it growing all over my background and on my driftwood, i wasn't feeding him anything. he seemed perfectly happy munching on that and was putting on size -- so i thought all was well...

nope, people think since its a pleco it eats algae.

Theres lots of diffrent types in the family, but they can range from meat eaters, wood eaters, alage eaters, and also other plecos.

I personally really enjoy Sun Cats - Don't have any catfish at the moment other than cory cats but they are great fish, don't get too big (8 inches is pretty much an adult) and they're always out and about.

never heard of this one. do you know the scientific name so that i can look it up?

Horabagrus brachysoma - I should also add that they are beautiful cats, not nondescript.
