Plant noob here so i appears my sword plant is growing another sword plant i think you would call it a mother plant so i would like to grow up the little sword it has its own roots so can i snip it off and grow it and with the stem looking part that conects them can i trim it down or does it need it to grow more little swords

yes you can i personally like to put the floating sword into the substrate when its still conected then wait a week tell it is established then cut the link between them but im sure you could cut it right now and be fine as long as there are some roots.

I had 3 babies sprout off my large Amazon which were all connected by one stalk, I was going to separate them because they all had roots but decided to leave them all connected. I just plated them in a row and it's been fine so far. I decided to leave it because it helps them stay rooted a lot better, I've yet to have one come up since they are all connected. They can take a beating from the Oscar or Pleco without fail.

Cool so it will grow new stems to make more plants right ? i hope so and i can trim down the stem once i've removed the baby right ?

heres a pic BTW

In my opinion in your case it owuld be better to go ahead and snip it and replant cause the mothers stem is going right up thru the root system of the baby. And if you plant it connected to the mother it will have to lay on its side adn that will cause the leaves on the bottom to die off. And besides it look really healthy and will do just fine on its on. I say all this thinking that the mother plant sprouted this while in your tank and you did not buy it like this. -------------The rule is usually to snip and replant when the baby gets leaves around 3'' tall and roots.<----taken from The Krib

Cool i'll plant it then and yes it grew in my tank not when i bought it
