Greetings.
I bought my symbranchus marmoratus on June, 26 2006 and by that time she was only a few inches. Now two years have passed and she's like 50 cm (19.6 inches) and chances are she'll grow alot more if conditions are met. I keep her in solitary mode in a spacious aquarium with gravel and a huge rock. Temperature is around 25/26C (77/78F). I feed her dry cat food, cubes of bloodworms, fish, ham and she always proved to have a voracious appetite.
Little information is available on the Internet about this specimen. It seems that this creature is studied in her natural environment or in laboratories and I don't know why it's not popular among home aquarium keepers since it's so fascinating with her head out of the water like the Monster of Loch Ness.
Anyway, my now-to-be-monster-swamp eel sometimes refuses to eat for 2 or 3 days and I would like to exchange ideas with you about this. Should I consider this behaviour normal? Or is there something wrong?
Also, what's the longevity/life expectancy of this animal?
I appreciate any thoughts on this matter.
Thank you very much for your time.
Alexis
