Recently bought an extremely small, small piece of spaghetti looking fellow.

There's next to no documented information on them in the trade as far as I know, so it hasn't been particularly easy finding out much about them... Beyond what I already knew. Max size, diet, sexual maturity, etc.

Supposedly they have an extremely powerful bite, but I'm not sure how inclined they are to chomp at tank mates.

So, has anyone actually owned one of these guys? Has anyone heard any stories over the years? Really, anything is appreciated.

I haven't kept one personally, but I know people who keep Monopterus albus, another swamp eel. They keep their swamp eels by themselves. One initially kept theirs with a crayfish. There were no problems, but he decided to separate them to play it safe(In my opinion, you can never trust crayfish with fish, no matter how big the fish is).

Swamp eels are pretty cool. Not necessarily the most attractive fish, but their behaviors are very interesting. My friends told me theirs will crawl to the front of the tank and follow them around.

Very interesting, I never knew they had personality like that or were so inquisitive.

Does anyone else have any first or second hand experience with swamp eels?

I do keep a few asian swamp eel, but im not sure how it differs from the south american species. Mine is very interactive, it will actually push about 6 inch of its body out of the water to touch my hand when I place my hands above it. Important thing is to get a secure cover for them, mine escaped multiple times through gaps much smaller than its body.

a few memebers have them. Hopefully one will pipe up.. but from what I gathered they did fairly well with other larger non-aggressive fish. tank-mates that are too big to be eaten readily and aren't going to harass the eel. iir they where in JDM set-ups or kept singlely.
