a LFS has a few of these and there a very nice lookin botia just woundering if they are aggressive like some botia or do they like being kept in groups ? also any other info on them would be great

there about 3'' and $18.99 good price ?

tigers are pretty tough guys. I wouldn't keep them with other loaches

what about other tigers can they do fine on there own or do they need to be with other tigers like clown loaches for example

you can keep them with themselves.
There are a few loaches that can be kept with them but make sure you provide lots of territory and hiding places. Syncrossus helodes, Syncrossus berdmorei, Yasuhikotakia morleti can be mixed but i would only do it in a big tank.

okay thanks so one will be fine on its own what i ment is do they need to be kept with there own kind like some loaches

No, clown loaches are not part of the Syncrossus genus. What size is the tank you are planning to put them in? Syncrossus berdmorei are very aggressive loaches and should best be kept with S. helodes, S. hymenophysa, S. beauforti, S. reversa, Yasuhikotakia modesta, Y. eos and Y. morleti. If you want other non-loach species, the only other fish that will suit them best are the lightning-fast large barbs and danios. Puntius arulius, P. filamentosus and . schwanfeldi are best provided you have adequate space to permit the last one.

Get a group of 8 minimum if you wish to keep the S. berdmorei. Do bear in mind these are large fish and at 8 inches, they need plenty of hiding places and even adequate space.

Do not attempt to keep any Syncrossus species with other loaches lest you want to waste your cash trying to mix them. They will never coexist along and expect them to severely injure even the clown loaches from their attacks. These are also by far one of the loaches that make loud clicking noises.

I agree with Lupin, the Tigers are unrelenting in their chasing behavior.

they do great with africans as long as the africans arent allowed to form territories. we have a few tigers with two or three skunk botias as well

I don't recommend mixing them with African cichlids and African cichlids will later on attempt to push the loaches aside from their territories. Their aggression far differs from the tiger loaches. Just because you were able to mix the two doesn't mean the two can be mixed together. I'm sorry but their requirements is far too different to permit both in one tank.

What species are your African cichlids? The issue comes in water parameter differences, foods and aggression. If the cichlids are mbunas, obviously you cannot feed rich meaty foods or risk them to suffer bloat. Loaches like their foods meaty most of the time and that is not acceptable for the mbunas. Meanwhile, the pH difference is far too wide. Loaches may be fine in a pH above 7 but that is not better compared to putting them in a pH below 7 which is something the African cichlids lack tolerance for due to ill adaptation to such conditions in their osmoregulatory system. The same thing can be said with the loaches. There is a difference between thriving and surviving.

okay what i under stand there a more aggressive botia but what i was asking is do they need to be kept in groups like clown loaches i'm not going to try and mix them with clowns

So it sounds like a tiger will be fine on its own or they should be kept in very large groups to spred out aggression right ?

what about keeping them with CA/SA cichlids ? not really aggressive ones like midas of course

planning on turning my 55 into a planted tank with some drift wood once i get my new tank the tiger would go in there and once it out grows it i would move it to the larger tank (hopefully a 180) which would have a few large cichlids with a few oddballs like polypterus and a tire track eel as we'll as a few catfish i may get a 75 gallon as we'll which i could pick tankmates that would work with the tiger botia
