Are the syno. eupterus known to suck on the slime coats of polypterus like plecos? I had noticed a couple of spots on some of my polys that appeared to be a little lighter over the past couple of days. It looked just like my senegal did when my pleco got ahold of it. I have been keeping an eye on it to see if its getting better or worse, and today I noticed that there were several new spots on the different polys. I pulled the syno cat and placed it in another tank for the time being. Is that the most likely culprit? Tankmates are polys, ropes, and an african knife. Whats the best treatment?

i have read quite a few times on this forum about synos doing this
adding stress coat will help faster, but not really necessary IMO

Just keep the water in good condition, those spots will be gone in few days.

Are there any synos that are less likely to do this or is it a trait of the species?

I am picking up my first Poly today, and it will be in a tank with my 8" Syno Eup. Now I am a bit worried. Let us know if you ever find out the exact cause.

how big is the poly and what kind
just curious :D

Are there any synos that are known to NOT bother the polys?

In my experience, all synos are known to do this and can do a lot of damage to your fish. I wouldnt trust them. If you must keep them together, proide good hiding spots for the bichirs and make sure your catfish are fed good so they arent as prone to suck from other fish...IMO, I just wouldnt try it at all.

Oh well, I've already moved him into another tank. Guess it's time to get rid of him. Maybe some place will get something I'm looking for someday.....
