Anyone with synodontis experience care to venture a guess as to whether this is an actual longirostris or a possible hybrid? I don't know whether they'vs started to captive breed these guys overseas or not.

He's probably only about 2" right now, so I'm not sure if the spotting/pattern would change as it gets larger or not. The pictures make him look a little bronze/gold, but he's more of a silver color looking at him in person, if that makes any possible ID any different. He's probably doubled in size (and girth) within a month, and the smaller spots at the front of his head seem to be coming in more prominently.

That's what I figured, it didn't cost me anything and I just took a shot thinking it'd 99.9% be a hybrid. I do like the overall shape and pattern, so I'm going to grow him out. Any idea on full grown size for these guys? Yours looks good, how big is he?

6" TL not good for you? Petricola are rare. 99% of the time what is sold as one ends up being the close-look-alike lucipinnis, ~1" shorter than the true petricola.

IDK what happened to mine. Looked like a bacterial infection. Generally, this fish has shown to be tougher than 90% of my other ~20 types of synos.

I think decora or ocellifer or both are in the parentage. Both quite big synos of ~1'.

Not that 6" isn't good enough, but more of my wanting to put into a large predator tank. I'd be wary of a 4-6" syno in there, that's all I meant. Hopefully he gets closer to yours in size, 10-12" should work well with places to hide.
