I have a 3" synodontis eupterus and some...5" black catfish that swims upside down. dunno what it's called. They seem to be really shy always hide in the rocks or some decor I have in there, and they only come out at night and even then I have to sneak up so they dont run back to their holes.

It's been almost a year since I got them and they haven't even grown a cm as they don't eat and only move around at night.

what should I do to get them to come out? at least to eat..

thats how alot of catfish are i have 3 that do that one i have had for about 5 years now and he is only out on feeding time

long plastic plants floating on the serface and more hiding places in the tank usually make the smaller cats feel more at ease and they tend to come out more. They hide during the daylight because they feel insecure in thier environment.

you could get a moon light and get them to come out so you can see them.

good idea. i'll consider the additional plants.
i do have a moonlight an that's how i can see them at night

i'm mainly concerned that because of their shyness they don't eat and haven't grown even after a year

oh and I have another albino ID that does eat and does swim around peacefully but hasn't grown as well. still at 4". i have a few other fish in the tank that are growing well...so i'm not entirely sure if it has something to do with water params/food/whatever.

Not all fish have the sort of growth rates you read about here on MFK... My wife and I raise Syndonis cats along with others...and they are slow growing fish at the best of times... I do know that ours who are given a fresh/frozen diet grow twice as fast as one of the LFS's who baught a few fry from us that are fed flake...
