So, after searching through catfish long and hard I came across the Synodontis Angelicus. Unfortunately, I found that a lot of the information I found differed from site to site so, I was hoping I might be able to get some info from some people who have had first hand experience with them. Any information would be helpful. The main things I am wondering about are...

1. Temperament
2. Aquarium Size needed to live comfortably.
3. Personality
4. and overall opinions and experiences with this fish

Thanks

PS pictures would be great.

I have one! They are my favorite synodontis species. Your going to find they are pricy $$$

1) Temperament: Mellow. Mine hides a lot during the day, I have LED "moon" lights and enjoy watching him in the dim light.
2)Aquarium size: They are very slow growers, at least mine is. Kept in a 55 for 4 years and grew from 2" to about 5". Then I got him and he's in a 180 loving life. I have him with a large pleco, a few weather loaches and maybe 2 dozen cory cats. No issues with fighting.
3) Personality: Cute. Fun to watch cruising the bottom looking for food.
4) Opinions: Great fish and worth the $$$ but they do seem to hide a lot.

I'll take a few pics and post em :)

See, I've read the opposite. I read that they can be aggressive and that they are fast growers. As far as the $$$ goes, I don't mind spending a little extra if it is going to be a great fish that I enjoy. From all the pictures I've seen, they look pretty beautiful. I'd love to see what yours looks like.

My in laws had one of these for about 16-17 years.

It was not aggressive other than with other synodontis species. They will attack other fish that try to take over their territory (they will generally take over some kind of decoration), but in general leave other fish alone.
They are mainly nocturnal.

Personality, not sure. My husband says they didn't interact with him too much other than feeding.

Aquarium size probably doesn't need to be too large. Theirs got about 7-8 inches. I've seen reports of much larger ones (21 in) in the wild, but I don't think that's common in aquaria. But if you're planning for possible max size, there you go.

If you have any other specific questions on their experiences with them I could ask my husband or his mom.

As far as pictures, since they attained this fish in the late 70s-early 80s, obviously they are regular photos. So I would have to dig some up and scan them. But if you really want them I suppose I could get them lol.

Thanks for info. Nah, you don't have to dig out a bunch of pictures. I was just hoping that someone already had some on their computer or a digital camera that could easily be uploaded. As for the life span, 16 to 17 years is pretty awesome. On some websites I've even heard of them living into the mid 20s.

Well, everything so far sounds pretty good. I think I'm going to go in search of one of these guys. Hopefully I can find one at the right size for a decent price. However, if anyone knows of any drawbacks to these guys I'd like to hear that too.

I'm sure they can live longer.

Theirs died years ago in a power outage, as did most of their other fish at the time. :(

Awesome pictures. Thanks for putting them up. He looks pretty cool. I tried to see if I could order one through the local pet shop but they didn't show up on the order list this week so I have to come up with a new plan. How did you find yours?
