specifically s.eupterus. I get that breeding info is very low on the ground due to the (i think) only successes being with hormone injections. Does anyone know of any decent online info or books to buy that would, if i attempt this lil project, help my researchings? thanks

Hi. We do use certain hormones to induce spawning of catfish like clarias and pangasius. Catfish pituitary glands are the usual but carp pituitary gland (CPG) or extract (CPE) or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) or a combination of them are used.
The gavid female females are injected with the hormone 18 and 12 hours prior to the stripping of eggs. In the case of clarias, the males have to be sacrificed to get the milt from the gonads surgically. Pangasius males, however, can be manually stripped of milt without having to be sacrificed. Please note that the protocol varies from specie to specie.
I hope that this will give you a start on your project. Good luck.

Hi. None that I know of either artificially or naturally. What I remember from years back was an article that said synodontis eupterus (?) needs mouth brooding foster fishes (I don't remember which specie) to breed in the wild. The syno would lay its eggs among the newly laid eggs of the foster fish which will mouth brood all the eggs. Then, the syno eggs will hatch first and the syno fry will eat the hatching fry of the foster fish. That's what I can remember and I hope I remember right. .
