Really? Everything I read says max size 8" I know that's an average but that would b awesome to c him bigger!

mine's been at 7" for almost 2 yrs. Not growing any bit bigger

This fish http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=121 grows to ~9" SL (standard length, i.e., excluding the caudal fin) in the wild, which is ~12" TL (total length).

Yes, more often than not ~8" TL appears to be the max in proper captivity.
