I have 2 55 gallon tanks, currently i have 1 with a RTC (for sale) and 2 plecos, about a foot and 8 inches. The other tank has a frontosa, 2 Limas(5,7), 1 TSN (not keeping, i know i know) 2 6 inch plecos, 3 baby pictus, 1 african cat, and a columbian shark. The plan is that once the RTC is gone, i will split the fish between the two. However, i am eventually going to have to dump the columbian shark (brackish?) and the TSN. I want to replace with another type of catfish, as thats more or less the only type of fish i keep. I keep seeing synodontis this and synodontis that, they max out pretty small, so i can keep it for life. I am trying to rid myself of all the fish that will outgrow the tank(except the limas) I plan to add a second filter to both tanks, since the bio load will be quite high. (although 1 filter(HOB 55) is handling the overstocked tank fine right now) Every synodontis cat looks pretty ugly, and doesnt seem to do much, the only 1 i like, is 100 bucks, and tiny. What sells you on these fish, its hard to google since i dont know much about them to search. I have found a black 1 for 30 as the cheapest option, however, its ugly, and hardly has any wiskers. The nice 100 dollar 1 is small, but is yellow and black, and jumps tank to tank at the petstore. (awesome!) What sells you guys, and if not, what fish will act similar to a RTC or lima, and preferably have long wiskers.

I've been going back on forth on exactly what my syno is, so it's most likely a hybrid. She's neat, I've had her for about six months now and she's about 5" and fat, nice grey tan color with big spots..I think she's purty. I still like the way she'll swim up the side of the tank and go on her back to hoover up the food at feeding time, a hungry catfish swimming upside down is just downright cute, and I watched a 8" syno do the same down at the LFS it doesn't get any less cute with size.
Hides a lot tho.
And you already have so many catfish, why get one that you don't like? I'd put that money into a nicer tank for your favorite catfish.

^ i would love to get a bigger tank, but the two i have are the most i can fit in my room, and i still live with my parents, so i cant take over the house with a monster tank (or id have a RTC!) I like catfish alot, so those are the ones i keep. There isnt too many you can keep in a 55 though, except for the synodontis types, which are very expensive and dont necessarily appeal to me, however, i have never owned one, and i thought the limas were lame until i had two of them. figured i would ask before i buy
