Synodontis eupterus/Feather Fin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I've had mine for about two years now and it is about six inches in length maybe smaller. It likes to hide in the driftwood most of the time but when I drop in the sinking pellets out it comes. It does not bother the other cats that I have and some days it will come out and criuse around the tank while displaying it's banner like dorsal fin.

Both mine are pretty territorial. 1 is in a 125 g tank with 2 big Oscars and the other is in a 55 g with a femlae Severum 7 some ornery Queen Loaches. I've tried them in several different tanks and they either got picked at (seldom) or harrassed (usually) the other fish. The only reason the one does ok in with the Queen Loaches is because they're fast and just a bit mean themselves lol. Mine got to 6-7" within 6 months or so and have mainly just filled out since then, I've only had them about......a year maybe?

these guys are very territorial. they can be very active at times IME.

i had one for about 3 years, and he was most active. constantly swimming, and was pretty nasty/stupid. even with totally shredded fins, after getting the rap kicked out of him, the dummy would STILL go and eat other fishes eggs, and steal food from their mouths.

was never, ever a tiny bit of food left either with this guy. be it floating, or on the bottom, he freaking ate it.

I agree, my fat syno eats everything, ive even watched it swim upside down around the top to get floating pellets, and ive also had it fight/kill other catfish.

My 2 are every bit as much of a PITA as you guys are saying LOL Like I said-I tried quite a few tanks before I found tanks they could live in. Mostly because they were mean. Even my grouchy Carpintis got beat up by one. There were many tank changin's before it was all over with and they ended up peacefully where they finally are now.
Edit: They're awesome looking and I love catfish. That's why I've gone to so much effort to keep them.

very territorial as said.... does best solo (no other like catfishes with it. it will fight with my cichlids but be peaceful with my tetras and cories.
