I'm doing some remodeling in my office/fishroom and am going with tanks that are easier to maintain. I had purchased 3 tank raised Synodontis granulosus (the legit ones/not the hybrids) when they were quite small for a good chunk of change. They were put in with my Altum angels and Uaru fernandezyepezi. The Altums & Uaru started out much bigger and now are still larger, but the 3 granulousus have closed the gap. The Uaru are turning up with torn caudals and I can't do another aquarium. I'm assuming it's the granulosus as the Altums show zero aggression towards them. I knew this would perhaps happen at some point. I already have 4 other aquariums, 4 bird cages and 2 dogs. It's too much and my other half would probably freak out if I were to propose getting another tank. I realize the granulosus are rarer and initally I was going to keep the granny's because the hard/alkaline water I have is a better fit for them. But with the other fish I can go in more of a direction that I'd like. Wanted to gauge some opinions for a reality check. The biggest shame of all is that I'm sure 2 of the 3 granulosus are a pair. One of the two is sleek and the other is quite rotund. They spend a lot of time in a large PVC pipe together too. Before i spend the money on an RODI unit for the other fish I decided to do a post. Thoughts please.

Well I may not be the best to post on this, but I love synos most synos. I've not seen too much aggression from synos toward other fish, amongst themselves, yes. I've seen issues when a syno claims an area and another fish invades it's space but most of the time the other fish gets the idea before the syno ends up shredding or killing it. Maybe this is what's going on? The uaru aren't getting the hint. Do the uara try to sleep in the general area of your synos?

Are there more than one uaru? If more than one then it could be fighting amongst cichlids.

I would be shocked if the Uarus (was 4, now 3 ?) are doing it to one another. They school together like marine fish and I've never seen so much as a mild poke at one another.

'Peaceful' cichlids do pair up and go at anyone else or gang up on the weakest one.
