I posted a pic of this guy a couple weeks ago and was told it's synodotis ornatipinnus, and most likely a hybrid one at that... It was labeled as decorus, and its def not... Can anyone tell if it's a real ornatipinnus or it's a hybrid, and what the visual differences are? Thanks.. Not the greatest pics, but it is a syno after all lol

wow! that is a very beautiful syno u got there!!! a keeper for sure! i'm sure that's a rare one!!

patterns are like tigrinus just a miniature if i may add.

There are so many crosses coming out right now on synodontis it is like the flowerhorn of catfish. Looks like there is some Brichardi in there.

Looks like a hybrid... Really hoping it's not because that is an awesome looking Syno... especially with the very distinct patterns

According to the latest book on African catfish, Seegers "The Catfishes of Africa", he lists 124 species of synodontis! He also states there are several waiting to be classified formally, and many more un-described out there, yet to be discovered! With that being said, even if your fish was a purebred, it would be hard to identify it with 100% accuracy! If it may be a hybrid, then the chances of figuring out what it is, or what it's crossbred with, would be pure speculation and next to impossible! It could be almost anything! It's a very attractive little guy, best to just enjoy it for that!:D Johnathan
