have you guys have had any experience with occelifers trying to suck the slime of other tankmates? they act more like plecos when i observe mine with my bichirs. is this their normal behaviour?

I had one for just a short time. Gave him away because he was constantly biting at the fish in the tank. Territorial little things.

i'm thinking the same. might be territoral aggression after all.thanks for the response.

I have some that look like they could be doing that. They aren't really sucking like a pleco, but more like their grooming an area. I have no idea if they are actually eating debris on the side of the fish or if they are actually removing slime coat. I've never seen any damage from it.

So you're not seeing damage either then? As long as every looks nice and healthy, I wouldn't worry about it too much. :)

having a slime coat protects them from contracting illnesses
obviously, but if he doesnt find any visual signs of damage or change in behavior then the catfish is simply territorial and not removing the slim coat, just keep a close eye on all your fish over the next few day..

My little guy has been doing it for months. It's not severe, and its not constant. It does not seem to be affecting anyone. If I thought it was, he would have gotten the boot a long time ago. It was definitely something I watch though to make sure it doesn't change and harm anyone.
