I just received my 4 Wild Caught Synodontis Petricolas about an hour ago and am needing to find out how to sex them. There is susposed to be a breeding pair and want to know which ones one is male and female so I can split the 4 of them up. Here are a couple of pics.

all i know is that the female became plumper when it's ready to mate..
any smarter than me help!

by the way your syno rocks!!!.

I don't know how to sex them either so when I got mine I bought eight of them hopin for the best. They are some really cool catfish, kinda slow growers though. How long are yours, they look decent sized.

I have 2 Males and 2 Females and they range from 3.5-4.5".

Why do you want to separate them? They don't really breed as a 'pair' either, and breed more often in a group anyways. If they really are wild, they should be full grown, so all of them should be able to spawn as well. I have a group of 14 in a 125, and have spawned them a couple of times by using the flowerpot with marbles method (as well I saw them spawn in some java moss and simply took it out to another tank). Good luck with them, baby catfish I think are the coolest fish to watch, especially a group of 50 1/2" synos!
