Well this guy ended up in my hands and I was wondering if he'll do any damage to my bichirs. My bichers are about 7-9" and he's about 5-6". Anyone have an idea if this is a good idea?

I have never heard anything about Synos attacking fish larger than themselves. I think it's fine.

should be fine. I have a ~8" speckled bullhead cat with mine with no problems. The only problem I can foresee is the cat gobbling up all the food before the bichirs can get to it. I just scatter lots of food all over my tank to make sure everyone gets some. The only side effect is a very fat catfish.

This was caused by my syno eupterus so you should be aware that some synos can cause damage to your bichir. I think it was eating the slime coat. Don't know if yours will do the same but I would keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the warning so far it seems like its very defensive and i'm most worried about the fins of the syno puncturing my bichirs accidentally

It looks like a Synodontis decorus. You may want to broswe through the Synodontis genus on planet catfish though.

I have 2 Synodontis eupterus with my bichirs. They are all abotu 6" at this point. So far all is well. I keep mine pretty well fed though, which can help prevent problems such as this. I would try it and if any problems do show up, be ready to deal with them.

it looks vaguely like a S. eupterus, but could be a hybrid. you can never tell with synos coming out these days... so many hybrids polluting the hobby. i have synodontis cats living with my bichirs for years and have never had any problems so far.
