HI,
I want to set up a 200 or 240 gallon tank with pairs of these fish.
(Synspilum, Chocolates, Blue Dempseys). I would buy them all at a juvie size
and let them pair off and grow together. I know that the bl dempseys are very mellow.
I have had chocolates before and found them to be very mellow also.
The synspilums would be the largest growing cichlid in this set up and when
I owned them before they too were very mellow but I did have them
in a tank with larger more aggresive cichlids so I'm not sure if this
is a true observation of them. Anyway do you think this might work or
would the Blue Dempseys be harrased??????? Any opinions????

I've had all three and IME the synpilum is the most aggressive. He actually looks for something to harass. The Chocolate would stand up to any fish but would not be agrressive unless somebody was being aggressive towards him. My EBJD (who is now no more :( ) was basically a pushover, just ran away from everyone.
IMO you could try the EBJD but I don't think it would work very well since they do not grow nearly as fast as the others and are generally not as aggressive.

What do you mean mellow? They were not very aggressive but scared?

Mellow as in not a troble maker, a "you dont bother me and i wont bother you" type fish
