At what size does the Synspilum color up and start to get the red head? I've seen some pictures on threads here and it seems that some specimens have more blue in them than others and some have more of a yellowish tint and more red on the head. I was just wondering when they usually lose their juvenile coloration and start to get their adult coloration?

im not sure when they usually get their colors but i have a 6-8"er currently have a full red head and starting on some blue scales and showing some reddish lil teeth on the top and bottom jaw of the cichlid lol =] very pretty fish...but yea...mines started this coloring at about 4-6"....

Well I had the opportunity to get one at a lfs that was donated by someone that didn't want it any more. It is about 5" and was in a tank with other cichlids and had a washed out look about it. Well I couln't resist and the price was I thought, a steal($20). Got it home and after about 3 hours it started to color up quite nicely with some decent red coloring around the head region. Not much, if any blue on the flanks and pretty much red tint throughout the fins. I'm hoping it is a Synspilum cichlid, but I like it no matter what it turns out to be.

I've got to figure out how to do pictures and then I'll post some.
