thats fairly fast growth. Are they best just a couple in a 125 or can you have them with other fish or what.

I dont know a ton about their personality, I have mine in a 55 gallon right now.
He fits in fairly well right now, he wont bother any of the big fish, they dont bug him much, there is a convict that is near his size, the convict will challenge my bigger sevs, and they "face off" the synspilum will come in a chase off the convict, but never the sevs.

I think as he gets bigger, he will probably be the tank boss. (I will be upgrading all my fish to a 700 gallon in about a month)

They get to around 16", what are the dimensions of a 125?

I have two breeding pairs in a 125 gallon tank and each pair protects either end of the tank as there breeding spot. Males are 6.5 and females 4.5 and they do well. I only have a clown loach and Congo tetras in the tank with them.

Very personable fish, mine was a bit like a Midas when it came to recognizing me. Of course they are a lot less aggressive.
He had a pretty good grow rate, he grew to 12 inch in a year (bought him at around 3 inch).

i have a trio in a 125 with a group of festae, ornatums, sajicas and they do great. not too aggressive, actually they work out more like a mediator for me. you could do some researching in the search forum as to what type of tankmates will work and all other info you need from all the other mfk guys that might not get a chance to read or respond to your thread:) good luck

I have a trio in a 125,with lysoni and chocolate cichlids, they get along fairly well with their tank mates.
I also have a larger one in a 180,he is currently 13 inches and is a year and a half old, they grow at a pretty good rate if conditions are kept right. All of mine eat like pigs though.
