Im thinking about maybe getting a goliath bird eater. But i wanted to run it by you all and see what you think first. Also i know some people have some so some information from those people woould be great.
Goliaths are incredible spiders, but as they are pricey and for the most part all wild collected, not always the best choice for all but experienced keepers. Seeing a bunch of T. blondi's at a reptile show was what got me into spiders, but I did my research and quickly realized this wasnt a good starter spider. A better bet might be one of the Lasiodora species, especially L. parahybana, which rivals the goliaths in size (it is debated which technically is the largest of the two) and IMO has better coloration. They are also commonly available as captive bred spiderlings and juvies for really reasonable prices. I have a little one now that I got for only $12, and it already molted and has grown considerably. check out www.shelbyreptiles.info, they have been really good to me so far and have a massive selection. Good luck with whatever you decide, and as one last word of advice I would strongly recommend The Tarantula Keepers Guide by Barrons, the best $15 you can spend in this hobby.
Thanks alot man.
I think i will go with the salmon pink bird eater IE L. parahybana. I found that T.Blondi is a really pissed off spider.
Thatnks for the info and the link.
